Facial Redness/Rosacia

Rosacea is a common skin problem that causes redness of the face.

It is not known what causes it but it often tends to get worse over time.

Certain factors may make rosacea more noticeable. These include hot drinks, alcohol, spicy foods, strenuous exercise, hot baths, sunlight, extremes of temperature, certain medications and emotions such as stress and embarrassment. Even after taking these lifestyle factors into account the facial redness is often still noticeable.

The symptoms that a person with rosacea may notice range from blushing or flushing of the face to generalised redness of the nose and cheeks, fine broken veins, spots, a burning sensation, dryness and swelling of the nose.

Depending on the symptoms, treatments can include creams, oral antibiotics, Laser, camouflage and in a few cases, surgery. Laser treatments are most useful for flushing, persistent facial redness and fine broken veins. Sun protection after laser treatment is vital and we can also provide effective creams for everyday sun protection.

If surgical treatment is appropriate we can recommend a surgeon, if required.
