Thread veins

Threadveins are small fine veins on the leg and are usually red, purple or blue.

Small green veins less than 4mm wide may also be included. If you have larger varicose veins, then these should ideally be treated first.

Sclerotherapy is treatment by injecting a substance that causes the vein to collapse and fade. Laser treatment causes the veins to collapse and seal shut. This vein is then broken down and absorbed by the body.

After treatment the area may be slightly swollen and a red mark resembling a cat scratch can persist for a few weeks. Results are improved by wearing compression stockings and avoiding heavy exercise and hot baths.

Most veins disappear a few weeks after the first treatment but occasionally further treatments are required.
